This is to inform you that The British Council has partnered with the International Research Foundation (TIRF) for English Language to provide doctoral dissertation grants of up to US $5,000. Grants are available to students enrolled in a doctoral programme in an OECD DAC listed country (a country already in receipt of Development Assistance Committee foreign aid) and investigating one of the following topics: 

  • Bilingualism or pluri-lingualism in business, industry and the professions
  • Language assessment
  • Optimal uses of technology in the delivery of English language instruction
  • Language teacher education
  • Students' age and effective English language education in schools
  • Language policy and planning.

The deadline for applications is 16 May 2014. Please disseminate details of this opportunity locally.
